Role Summary:

Under general supervision, the Java Developer is responsible to work effectively with peers and business counterparts to assess  assigned situations/projects and define and document appropriate solutions.  May be assigned troubleshooting tasks to be resolved autonomously and/or work with a team to resolve the challenge.  The selected candidate will also be responsible to follow departmental software engineering process, methodology and standards.  

As a Java Developer your key responsibilities will include:
  • Assess business needs and document requirements and needs 
  • Analyze requirements and define and document appropriate solutions 
  • Estimate effort required to produce appropriate solution 
  • Work with a team to understand the solution scope and vision of the assigned project/task
  • Work independently or with a team to design and implement appropriate solutions for assigned work 
  • Communicate and collaborate with team as well as with other IT teams within the organization. Provide mentorship, coaching and guidance to other team members 
  • Investigate defects, troubleshoot and propose appropriate solutions 
  • Create detailed design specifications 
  • Transition the detail design into code and implement appropriate technical solution 
  • Plan and perform appropriate tests to create a high quality solution 

As the ideal candidate, you possess the following qualifications:

Education: University degree or community college diploma in Computer Science or a similar program. 

Work Experience: Minimum of 2 years experience doing design and development work. 

Computer Skills: Java, JEE, JavaScript, Spring EJB, WebSphere,  Web Services, JSP, JSF,  XML/XSL, Ajax,SOAP, WSDL, UML, Oracle RDBMS, SQL, Ant, Netbeans, Maven, Spring, Oracle databases. 

Other qualifications: Working knowledge of the environment and tools used by the application area. Working knowledge of the Rational Unified Process (RUP).  

Language Skills: Bilingualism is considered an asset
