Role Summary:
Applications are invited for the full-time permanent position of Group Underwriting Assistant reporting to the Director Group Underwriting. In this position you will work with the group underwriting team to ensure that Medavie Blue Cross achieves its underwriting targets for Group life, disability and health lines of business. 
As a Group Underwriting Assistant your key responsibilities will include:
  • Running manual rates for all quotations;
  • Preparing life, disability, health and dental files and renewal packages for the underwriters;
  • Assisting Group Underwriters in renewal and/or quotation activities;
  • Processing new groups/revisions;
  • Administrative duties as required including maintaining databases, logs, department records, record keeping, reports, etc.; and
  • Creation of proposals, renewal files, financial agreements, etc. from existing templates based on quotation submissions and file documentation for review and final edit by the underwriter.
As the ideal candidate, you possess the following qualifications:

Education:    Post-secondary education in the field of business administration, mathematics or actuarial science;

Work Experience:    Minimum six months experience in an administrative role;

Other Qualifications:    Have a solid understanding of the group insurance business;

Computer Skills:    Excel level II, and high proficiency and knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of products, particularly Excel; 

Execution and
Organizational Skills: 
   Spends his/her time and the time of others on what’s important; quickly zeros in on the critical few and puts the trivial many aside;

Team Work Skills:    Can quickly find common ground and solve problems for the good of all; can represent his/her own interests and yet be fair to other groups; can solve problems with peers with a minimum of noise; is seen as a team player and is cooperative; easily gains the trust and support of peers; encourages collaboration and can be candid with peers;

Language Skills:    Bilingualism in French and English will be considered an asset.
