Role Summary:

As a not-for-profit organization, Medavie Blue Cross commits 13% of our annual net income to support health-related a causes in the communities where our colleagues and clients live and work.  Reporting to the Director, Communications and Medavie Health Foundation, the Community Relations advisor manages the ongoing operation and communications of the Building Healthy Communities Program.  This includes the development and execution of a comprehensive annual community giving plan, building a network of community partners and reviewing and providing recommendations for all grant and sponsorship requests.  Responsibilities also include spreading the word through a range of internal, external and digital communications as well as event planning.

As a Community Relations Advisor, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Support the planning and execution of announcement events and community relations activities, including news releases, media kits, media pitching, and event logistics;
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including community partners and media;
  • Managing Building Healthy Communities digital content, including contributing to posts on the MBC website, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and any future digital activations;
  • Foster employee engagement in community giving initiatives across the six regions where we do business through ongoing communications and activities to promote the organizations and initiatives we support;
  • Support the administration of the annual Building Healthy Communities budget and manage the ongoing grant and sponsorship requests;
  • Writing, editing and proofreading print and digital documents;
  • Collaborate as part of a team of communications professionals.

As the ideal candidate, you possess the following qualifications:

  • Have a post-secondary education in public relations or related field, and/or at least five years related experience;
  • Are a self-starter who works well independently and as part of a geographically dispersed team;
  • Have a contagious energy that allows you to successfully rally your colleagues to support a cause;
  • Are a big picture, creative thinker with a proven ability to develop unique engagement opportunities that further the overall business objectives;
  • Have a proven ability to develop and execute clear and compelling communications plans;
  • Have the ability to story tell and create narratives by leveraging your superior writing skills;
  • Actively engage in social media to establish and grow your community network beyond the boundaries of traditional communications;
  • Are flexible to occasional work outside of normal hours and open to occasional travel.

Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.
