Role Summary:
Reporting to the Team Leader, the Actuarial Analyst plays a key role in our actuarial function to help drive our business forward. The Actuarial Analyst will work closely with members of our Finance, Actuarial Pricing and Group Underwriting teams.
As the Actuarial Analyst, your key responsibilities will include:
  • Budgeting and measuring underwriting contribution for group and individual blocks of business;
  • Analysis and monitoring of the profitability of group and individual business;
  • Development, calculation, and analysis of monthly and year-end actuarial reserves;
  • Preparation of the Minimum Continuing Capital Surplus Requirement;
  • Working with our Appointed Actuary in the preparation of the Appointed Actuary’s report and the Dynamic Capital Adequacy Testing report;
  • Preparation of all management information reports relating to underwriting margins;
  • Managing the organization’s need for, and negotiation of reinsurance;
  • Completion of industry surveys linked to financial results; and
  • Various ad hoc analysis and research projects.
As the ideal candidate, you possess the following Qualifications:

Education: Post-Secondary degree in Actuarial Sciences, Mathematics, Finance, Accounting or business; Pursuing SOA exams is necessary.  

Work Experience: Experience in an Actuarial position would be considered an asset.

Other Qualifications: Proven Analytical Skills are required.

Computer Skills: Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite specifically Excel and Word.

Language Skills: Bilingualism is an asset but not required.

You also demonstrate the following core competencies:

Knowledge: Database query tools such as Discoverer, Query Builder, SQL along with a superior knowledge of Excel.

Analytical Thinking: Has high attention to detail, and proven mathematical skills, looks beyond the obvious and can solve difficult problems with effective solutions.

Communication Skills: Proven written, oral and listening skills, tailoring information and delivery to suit the nature of the material, audience and situation. Ability to explain complex things in a simple way.

Customer Orientation: Understanding the client’s needs and focused on ownership and project accountability.

Execution & Organizational Skills: Ability to work in a demanding, fast paced environment and to establish priorities.

Team Work: Strong interpersonal skills, positive attitude and ability to work in a group or independently.
