Role Summary:
In this position, you will work with the Group Underwriting team in the Toronto office to ensure that Medavie Blue Cross achieves its underwriting targets on group business with 100 or more lives.
As well, you will work closely with  Head Office financial reporting units, the Ontario Sales team in dealings with agents/brokers/consultants and group administrators to ensure that our group business achieves profitable growth.

As a Financial Underwriter your key responsibilities will include:

  • Financial accounting for corporate ASO and refund-accounted clients;
  • Preparation of monthly and annual financial statements of large corporate accounts;
  • Provide analytical and financial support as an integral part of the financial reporting team in order to meet target dates and minimize errors;
  • Participation in presentations with clients and producers;
  • Establish consistent financial awareness within the team of all financial, procedural, process and client changes resulting in the completion of quality financial data;
  • Developing and ongoing maintenance of direct relationships with clients and producers;
  • Mentoring and training of junior underwriters in financial statement preparation;
  • Assessment of risk for group life, disability, health and dental business.
As the ideal candidate, you possess the following qualifications:

Education:  post-secondary education; GBA designation under CEBS program strongly preferred.

Work Experience: minimum of four years of underwriting experience, some of which in a similar financial role.

Other Qualifications:
  • Self-directed with high levels of personal accountability and responsibility;
  • Excellent reasoning, judgment and decision-making abilities;
  • Possess strong analytical skills with high attention to detail;
  • Time-management skills and enjoy working in a fast paced environment involving multiple tasks and priorities;
  • Strong negotiation and presentation skills;
  • Ability to travel to our headquarters in Moncton, NB (quarterly) and locally within Ontario. 
Computer Skills: strong working knowledge of MS Excel.

Language Skills:  excellent command of the English language including strong written communication; Bilingualism would be an asset.
